The Detroit Artists Market is pleased to announce our 2013 Garden Party and Art Sale, taking place this year on Thursday, June 20th, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the home of Angela Topacio and Matt DiDio, found in the historic setting of Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood.
The Garden Party and Art Sale is a tradition that began in the 1930s, when the Detroit Artists Market was founded, as a special way of bringing together artists and patrons for a fun and beautiful afternoon. This year features artworks by more than 100 emerging and established local artists and will include paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, jewelry, glass, ceramics, fiber, and much more!
Our special musical entertainment is Steve Jarosz Latin and Flamenco Trio. Guests will also enjoy appetizers and sweets generously provided by Angelina Italian Bistro, Motor City Brewing Works, Mudgie's Deli, Slows To Go and Whole Foods Market.

The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) is pleased to present EDGE, a group exhibition of twelve artists reconfiguring established thinking and current perceptions of art. Juried by Melanie Manos, the exhibition runs June 7th–July 13th, 2013. DAM will host a public opening reception Friday, June 7th from 6:00 – 9:00pm where gallery visitors can experience this exhibition featuring paintings, sculpture, multi-media, and interactive works.
Gallery Talk: Saturday, June 22nd from 2:00-4:00pm. DAM will be hosting a gallery talk open to the public with the juror and exhibiting artists.

The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) is pleased to present LINE BY LINE Drawing Explored, a group exhibition with 31 local artists. Curated by Jennifer Seibert and Jack O. Summers, the exhibition runs April 19th – May 24th, 2013. DAM will host a public opening reception Friday, April 19th from 6-9pm where gallery visitors can meet the artists and have an opportunity to view and purchase the wide array of works investigating the notion of drawing. DAM will also host a Gallery Talk with the exhibiting artists on Saturday, April 27th from 2-4 pm.

The Detroit Artist’s Market proudly presents its 2013 Annual Detroit Artists Market Scholarship and Exhibition Program that includes the presentation of the scholarship awards to outstanding Wayne State University art students. The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) exhibition will present works of art by the ten student scholarship finalists as well as many distinguished alumni and faculty members. The DAM exhibition will open on March 1, 2013 with a reception: Members’ preview from 6 – 7pm, and the public opening from 7 – 10pm. The exhibition will run through April 6, 2013.

2013’s design show, the DAM Design Aria, turns the spotlight on what is new from Detroit’s top designers. The ensemble has been carefully orchestrated to include multiple design elements; lighting, chairs, tables, jewelry and graphic design, creating a display in harmony. DAM will once again host a runway show, On Stage, with costumes out of Michigan Opera Theatre’s design room.

The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) will host a special benefit exhibition to celebrate its 80 years of serving Detroit. The 80 Bucks Benefit features original artwork from many of the Detroit area’s best contemporary artists. All artworks, donated by the artists, will be sold at the special price of $80 each. Want to be the first to preview and purchase artworks for only $80? The First-Dibs Preview runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16th. The First-Dibs Preview of the 80 Bucks Benefit provides the exclusive opportunity to preview and purchase artwork. Tickets are $80 to attend, for either one or two people. Door times will be strictly enforced, and all sales of artworks at $80 each are first-come, first-served. Detroit Artists Market is pleased to present its Biannual All Media Exhibition 2012. Opening April 20, 2012, DAM will host a public opening and awards reception that evening from 6pm to 9pm. This show is part of DAM's 80th anniversary year with a juried exhibition of contemporary art by 26 Michigan artists. This year the Detroit Artists Market invited guest juror Leon Johnson, artist and educator, to select the show from 200 area artists and 400 pieces of artwork submitted for consideration. Leon Johnson will present a gallery talk on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 2pm to 4pm. The Biannual All Media Exhibition 2012 will run through Thursday, May 24.

The Detroit Artists Market is pleased to present Personal Visions . The opening reception is on Friday, September 9, from 6-9 pm.
Personal Visions showcases the work of eight talented artists who were selected by the DAM Exhibition Committee from the exhibiting artists of the 2010 All Media Exhibition. Committee members selected the artists by process of vote. During the last year, the committee visited the studios of the eight exhibiting artists to view and discuss their work. “Personal Visions shows the evolution in each of these diverse artists’ work over the past year, a continued conversation and more in-depth understanding and appreciation of each participant’s personal style and point of view.” Melissa Jones, DAM Exhibition Committee member and show coordinator.

The Detroit Artists Market is pleased to present Unmentionables: The Underwear Show . Opening Friday, June 10, 2011, DAM will host a public opening and reception that evening from 6pm – 9pm. Gallery visitors will have an opportunity to meet the co-curators, Gary Eleinko and Jack Summers, and the exhibiting artists. Unmentionables runs through July 16, 2011. Join us Thursday, June 23rd for a panel discussion with the curators and select exhibiting artists.
There are many aspects to how underwear is viewed in American society and its many subcultures: we can find attitudes from erotic and fetish to the mundane and so-very-basic essential to our wardrobes. Co-curators Gary Eleinko and Jack O. Summers created this exhibition to see how such a subject would be interpreted from a fine arts point of view. Thirty-three area artists will present two- and three-dimensional artwork including fiber, jewelry adornments, photography, painting and sculpture.

The Detroit Artists Market proudly presents Northern Lights , an aptly-named exhibition showcasing the work of 20 artists from northern Michigan. A unique opportunity for DAM, this exhibition introduces talented artists and works not seen before in Metro Detroit, and will surprise and enrich your notions of what “Up North” art can be.
The Northern Lights Exhibition will open at the DAM on Friday, April 29th with a public preview from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Join us for the afterglow at Northern Lights Lounge located at 660 W. Baltimore Street, Detroit 48202. Appetizers for the reception will be provided by Northern Lights Lounge and musical entertainment by Kresge Fellow Joel Peterson and Friends. Tenebroso - Sergio De Giusti

The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) is proud to celebrate long-time friend and Italian American artist, Sergio De Giusti, in his solo exhibition, Tenebroso. The Public Opening reception will be Friday, September 10, 2010 from 6pm – 10pm. DAM will also host a Gallery Talk on Saturday, October 2nd, 2-4 p.m. with Sergio De Giusti. De Giusti, best known for his figurative bas reliefs and sculptures, will display new artwork created over the past year. The exhibit is a collection of charcoal drawings, reliefs, bronze sculptures and watercolors. The title of the show, Tenebroso, is an Italian reference to the shrouding of his images in darkness. His strong Italian influence is evident in his themes of cloaked subjects and landscapes, sacred symbols, and Baroque mannerisms.

Nearly 300 local artists were given old film reel boxes, donated by Wayne State University Library Systems, to create original works of art. These boxes will be on display and silent auction beginning Tuesday, August 10th. Be sure to see the show and find your favorite works prior to the final day - the show closes with a Final Bidding Reception on Friday, August 20th from 6-9pm. Bidding will be fast and furious that evening, and the bidding closes at 8:45pm sharp! All auction proceeds benefit the mission and programs of the Detroit Artists Market.

This year’s summer exhibition at the Detroit Artists Market was curated by Jack O. Summers, artist and educator. contemporary art by 25 Michigan artists. “Wordage” Exhibition runs through July 24, 2010.

DAM’s Elements Gallery features artist Ryan Asplund. In contrast to the contemporary styles of works in the main gallery, Mr. Asplund’s art directly reaches back into the past. He will present a gallery talk from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, June 26, 2010, discussing his work in creating illuminated manuscript art.

2010 Annual Scholarship Awards and Exhibition: Wayne State University

The Detroit Artists Market proudly presents its 2010 Annual Detroit Artists Market Scholarship and Exhibition Program that includes the presentation of the scholarship awards to outstanding Wayne State University art students. The DAM exhibition will open with a public reception with the artists on Friday, March 12th from 7-10 p.m. The exhibition runs through April 17, 2010. The exhibition at Detroit Artists Market (DAM) will present the juried works of the three scholarship recipients along with the six other student finalists. Many distinguished alumni and faculty will, by invitation, also exhibit their work in this Scholarship Exhibition.

The focus in this exhibition is to bring together a group of artists who interpret the landscape genre in a unique and individual manner. From A Different Perspective

The Detroit Artists Market presents its first summer show, “From a Different Perspective”, from June 26th to July 25th. The opening reception is on Friday, June 26th, from 6-9 pm.
The show features six regional artists who work outside of the traditional forms of painting, sculpture, and drawings. Their subject matter and style derives from comic book illustration, the surreal, alternative culture, and assemblage. The works are often edgy and have some sense of humor, from droll and understated, to the more outrageous and obvious.

Each year in January, Detroit turns its attention to design and creativity. In 2009 the Detroit Artists Market will take its own look at design with the DAM Design Show. This show will look at the entire creative process from concept to design to creation of an artistic and functional piece. Ten designers will take on this process in creating “Chair”. The show will exhibit pieces from their creative process, including concept sketches, scale models, and the finished piece. The DAM Design Show will provide an intimate look into how design “happens”, and results in unique functional pieces. Following the DAM Design Show, these chairs will be shown at Mezzanine, February 4-15, 2009.
In addition to the chair designers, DAM will showcase jewelry designers, whose work will be featured in a special fashion show during the opening ticketed event. Concept and production pieces will be shown through the run of the show.

“The Market Presents: John Hegarty and Tom Parish Revisited” is a special feature of the Detroit Artists Market 75th Anniversary season. It honors two artists who are still actively listening to their muses. Both embody the soul of Detroit’s art culture. It also gives DAM an opportunity to remember and honor Mary Denison , who in 1982 began her tenure as DAM’s first full time Art Director. A catalog will document the exhibition. The original version of this show was the second in a series Ms. Denison initiated to recognize mature artists of stature in the community who had no local venue for their art.
2008 DAM Annual Scholarship and Exhibition Program: Cranbrook

This year’s exhibition and scholarship program commemorates the contributions of the world renowned Cranbrook Academy of Art and the DAM, both of which have recently celebrated their 75th anniversaries. The student finalists of the John F. Korachis Scholarship Awards were chosen by the DAM scholarship and exhibition committee. The selection process began with an open invitation to Cranbrook graduate students and was concluded with individual studio visits and interviews with the finalists. After lengthy deliberations, the recipients of the awards and scholarships were finally chosen for their originality, dedication and exceptional art work.
