Artist Statement
My artwork explores the dissolution of material and figurative imagery, depicting the abstract essence and energy of life. I draw inspiration from my art historical studies including non-western art as well as Abstract Expressionist painters such as Joan Mitchell, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthale,
and Jackson Pollock.
My most recent body of work is inspired by fashion and pop culture. I juxtapose jarring, bright colors that create visual tension, and insert well-known images / symbols such as Buddhas or flowers. These serene images contrast against the hard edges of the bright, gaudy colors to create an interesting sort of pop art I like to call “Trashy – Pretty.”
