Artist Statement
Martin Skalski was born in Toledo Ohio. He taught full-time at Pratt Institute for 25 years, where he concentrated on developing student’s visual sensitivity to both two and three-dimensional aesthetics. He has two books concerned with each of those visual phenomena. Since leaving Pratt he has been working as a sculptor, focusing on the synthesis of changing three-dimensional physical surfaces, textures or patterns and colors, toward the goal of an enhanced aesthetic visual experience.

Steel Sculptures
This series of painted steel sculptures focuses on visual perception over time and space. They are about the synthesis of changing three-dimensional physical surfaces, textures or patterns and colors, toward the goal of an enhanced aesthetic statement. To enhance unity the physical surfaces are made from a single shape with cut holes, that is bent and connected to itself.
