DAM has the honor of presenting Shirley Woodson: Why Do I Delight, curated by Leslie Graves. A legendary Detroit artist and educator, Woodson’s artistic career spans six decades, and her work is represented in collections across America, including the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Studio Museum in Harlem. This exhibition showcases Ms. Woodson’s range, which includes early paintings and collage work produced in muted tones, and extends to her trademark richly colored, textured abstracts. The exhibition also features artwork that pays tribute to Woodson, from protégés Elizabeth Youngblood, Dwight Smith, Kimberly Harden, Peter Crow, Beverly Watson, and Najama Maat.
